Travel doesn't have to derail your fitness and healthy eating goals. Here are a few of my favorite tips for workouts and snacks that keep you on track (without feeling like deprivation mode).
Workouts
I love a good vacation workout! I usually have plenty of down time (a rarity!) and that helps me view it as something I get to enjoy while away and not just something I have to do. I always suggest packing a couple of workout outfits and your shoes so you won't have that as an excuse! If a gym is not accessible, I love a good bodyweight HIIT workout because you don't need any equipment and it doesn't take much space, or it's easy to throw in a mini band for some resistance strength as well. Yoga is GREAT when traveling because you're usually a little tight/cramped from riding in the car, crunched on a plane, sleeping in different beds, carrying luggage, etc., and it can really help work out those kinks!
And of course, don't forget to walk walk walk! If you have a busy schedule when traveling and aren't able to fit your regular workouts in, enjoy all the extra steps you can find—opt for sightseeing on foot when you can, and take the stairs whenever possible.
Healthy Snacks
Mindless grazing can get us into trouble when we're at home, and that can be even more true when traveling! We're also more prone to indulge. Here are a few of my go-to's that make it easy to keep fueling myself with the right things.
1. Plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help flush out germs and toxins and also help keep your digestion moving
2. Protein bars. I always keep a could of organic protein bars on hand to make sure I don't get too hungry or to have when there's not a better option available
3. Raw Nuts. A great way to get healthy fat, fiber and protein even when on the go.
4. Apples. Easy to throw in a bag and a great snack full of fiber and prebiotics for healthy digestion.
5. Organic Microwave Popcorn. Pop ahead of time for the plane or car, plus thrown a couple bags in your suitcase since they don't take up much room. It's ahigh fiber snack that feels a little more indulgent, while still being better than most other options when traveling.
